What is Iwami Kagura?
A traditional performing art of western Shimane (Iwami region), featuring gorgeous gold- and silver-embroidered costumes and lively, energetic dances to fast-paced music. The stories are based on myths and easy to follow, with dramatic scenes such as a fire-breathing serpent.
Tane Kagura Troupe
Based in the Tane area on the north side of Mt. Sanbe, the troupe combines features of Oku-Iishi style kagura and Iwami Kagura. Local volunteers revived the tradition after it was lost in the early Showa era.
