About this activity
A time of "true darkness" beyond the reach of city lights. After the first star, the sky fills with countless stars. Listen to a friendly stargazing guide and enjoy Mt. Sanbe's natural planetarium.
Capacity: 50 people (minimum 10 participants) Our local stargazing guide from Oda City has experience giving talks at a museum. The talk lasts 30 minutes — enjoy it while looking up at the night sky.
Season: April–November, twice a month on Saturdays (about 16 times a year)
- On cloudy days the stargazing talk is cancelled, but the night lift still runs and we refund 500 yen. No cancellation fee is charged if you wish to cancel your booking.
Times (November)
- Boarding at the base: 20:00
- Stargazing talk: from 20:30 (about 30 min)
- Last ride down from the summit: 21:15
- Online booking closes at 19:00 on the day.
Notes / what to wear and bring
- Please use the Higashinohara parking lot. The lift station is about a 3-minute walk.
- There are no toilets at the summit. Please use the public toilets next to the parking lot beforehand.
- The summit is 854 m high and about 2–3°C colder than the lowlands. Please bring a warm jacket.
- Binoculars make it even more fun to view star clusters.
- If you miss the last lift down from the summit, we may treat it as a missing-person case and contact the police.

Cancellations are accepted until the event start time (20:00) on the day. No cancellation fee is charged even for cancellations for personal reasons. *Please cancel your booking yourself. However, if you do not show up without notice, 100% of the fee will be charged. On cloudy days the stargazing talk is cancelled, but the night lift still runs and we refund 500 yen. The decision to hold or cancel is made at 13:00 on the day, based on the Weathernews forecast for Sanbe-cho, Oda City, Shimane.
Choose advance or on-site payment at confirmation. Advance payments are refunded according to the cancellation policy. For on-site payment, the operator will bill cancellation or no-show fees according to the cancellation policy.
